Do I need a UK company to sell to UK customers?

Not always. Many brands sell to UK customers from abroad, although tax registration may still apply, and some payment providers, marketplaces and banks prefer a UK entity. Our regulated accounting partner advises on it and handles the formation if you go ahead; Workly Up does not form companies itself.

Which payment methods should a UK store offer?

Cards and digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay are the foundation. PayPal is familiar to many UK shoppers, and buy now, pay later providers such as Klarna and Clearpay are worth evaluating for higher-value baskets. We compare them with you and set up only the ones that suit the brand.

What are the rules on returns and cancellations in the UK?

Customers who buy online can generally cancel within 14 days of receiving their order, with exceptions such as made-to-order or personalised items, and faulty goods can be rejected for a full refund within 30 days. Your returns policy can be more generous than the law, but not less. We structure the pages; the final wording is reviewed by your legal adviser.

Can you adapt our existing store instead of rebuilding it?

Often, yes. The Starter audit reviews your current store against UK expectations and lists what to change, in order of priority. Sometimes that means currency, payments, copy and policy pages on the existing build; sometimes a new Shopify store is the better investment.

How does VAT work on orders shipped to the UK from abroad?

For parcels worth up to £135, the seller charges UK VAT at checkout, which means registering for UK VAT; above £135, import VAT and any customs duty are paid when the goods enter the UK. Your accountant confirms what applies to you. We then set up the store so prices include VAT and nothing unexpected is due on delivery.

How should delivery and returns work for UK customers?

Clear delivery dates, tracked parcels and a simple returns route, all stated before checkout. We design that experience and set up rates, delivery estimates and the returns flow in the store; carrier contracts and customs procedures stay with the logistics partners you choose.
